A proper Gloucester Road pub with a big menu — not just small plates — and a wide, roomy layout with comfy seating that copes fine with a pram. Come early: at 1pm on a Saturday it's quiet enough for a family lunch, though evenings fill up and the noise climbs. The newer dishes are cooked fresh and arrive fast — Korean chicken wings, halloumi, houmous and flatbreads, battered cod all get praise, and the cakes are a genuine highlight. Skip the mac and cheese; more than one person found it underwhelming. Staff stay patient and friendly even when the bar is three deep. There's a kids' menu and high chairs, plus darts and pub games to occupy older children. Prices are the snag — around £10 for a coke and a beer, and better value exists nearby.
