A small café near the centre of Rothbury with a sunny outdoor seating area — good for a drink and a slice of the dark chocolate and pistachio cake while children fidget outside rather than in. Inside it's cosy and unhurried, with a vintage vinyl player crackling away and staff who go out of their way: oat and soya milk, gluten-free adapted on the spot, and one family who rang ahead about beef wellington got it made specially. Portions are generous — the pork belly bites and the salmon risotto get particular praise — and there's a kids' menu, high chairs and free parking. Sunday lunch does a proper roast. It's on the small side, so it's worth booking if you want a decent table, and the odd kitchen slip does creep in.
