Right off Victoria Street, this is a proper sit-down chippy rather than a takeaway counter, and it's big enough that a pram isn't a problem — two floors, spacious, comfortably laid out. It gets genuinely busy and genuinely loud, especially at weekends and during the Fringe, so book if you can, though there's a bar to wait at and tables often turn inside ten minutes. Service is fast even at full tilt, which matters when someone's hungry and losing patience. Portions are enormous — plenty of families share one order of fish and chips between two — and the fish is fresh and crisp, with haggis spring rolls and Scottish-twist sides worth a try. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, a big gluten-free selection with separate prep, and halal options. Worth knowing: the fish is fried in beef dripping unless you ask for vegetable oil.
