Plonked in the middle of Belton's adventure playground — the National Trust's largest — this kiosk-sized café exists for the exact moment your children are still whizzing about and you need to sit down. Bean-to-cup coffee, sandwiches, cakes, ice creams and a kids' menu, high chairs, and a loyalty card if you come often. The position is the real draw: toilets and baby change are attached, sparing you the old trek back to the house, and a small courtyard catches the sun beautifully. The miniature train starts nearby, and children love spotting deer from it. Buggy access is easy and parking is free. It is small, though, and feels cramped when the playground empties into it; service can be slow, and prices are what you'd expect on a National Trust estate. One parent calls it "very convenient for tired parents".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
