A family-run Italian tucked into the New Town, a few minutes from Waverley and the Harvey Nichols end of the shops — handy if you've been out with children in tow and don't fancy trailing back to the Old Town. It's a warm, chatty room hung with pictures, and the staff are the reason people come back; families get recognised on a second visit and steered to the window seat. There are high chairs and a kids' menu, and the cooking is plain Italian done properly — the bruschetta gets singled out again and again, along with the mussels, the gnocchi and a spaghetti vongole one parent describes as having a "home-cooked" feel. Worth knowing it sometimes runs short-staffed, so food can take a while. Non-alcoholic drinks are available; no halal options.
