A proper old-school chippy on the seafront, and one that takes its frying seriously — the batter comes out crisp rather than greasy, portions are generous and well presented, and the range of fish is wider than you'd expect. Families come for the cod and chips, the homemade tartar sauce and the brownies and crumble, and the team keep things moving fast, which helps when a toddler has hit the wall. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and free parking, and plenty of people take theirs down to a bench by the sea instead (watch the seagulls). Two honest snags: it isn't cheap for a chip supper, sauce sachets cost extra, and the upstairs seating is only for restaurant orders, not takeaway — worth checking before you queue.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
