Eastern European · Edinburgh
Polish canteen cooking in Edinburgh, at milk-bar prices — schabowy, potatoes, the kind of plain, filling plates children tend to eat without argument. There's a kids' menu and high chairs, and at ££ it's an easy weekday stop rather than an occasion. Worth going in with clear eyes, though: there's very little to go on here, and what there is pulls both ways. One family's visit went badly — a pork cutlet that came out of the fryer rather than the pan, cold potatoes, no offer to cook a fresh one, and a twenty-minute wait outside that ended in a refund instead of lunch. Others have come away delighted. With so few voices either way, it's a gamble better taken on a calm afternoon than on the day everyone is already hungry and fraying.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
