Tucked at the head of Cowgate and attached to a hostel, this is a big, surprisingly clean bar that works better for a relaxed early meal than a late one — buggy access is easy, high chairs are there, and there's a garden for when the noise inside builds. There's a kids' menu, and prices are genuinely reasonable: the burger-side-drink deal is good value and portions land well. The chilli fries get particular praise, and halloumi fries, onion rings and margherita pizza are the safe orders, though pizza is hit and miss and one family waited an hour for one. Staff are patient and keep going even when a hostel check-in swamps the place, but that's the snag: food can be slow at busy times. Evenings turn energetic with karaoke, pool and darts, so come at lunch with children.
