Bar Loco
A laid-back Newcastle café-bar with outdoor seating, well-loved at 4.5 stars across 700-plus reviews.

Korean · Newcastle upon Tyne
Newcastle's Pan Asian menus can blur together, but this one spreads itself across Japanese, Korean and even a few Filipino dishes, so there's usually something to tempt a picky eater alongside a proper kids' menu. Parents rave about the ribeye ("melt in the mouth"), soft shell crab, chicken teriyaki skewers and the spicy seafood ramen, and the vegan side is genuinely strong — okonomiyaki, pumpkin curry donburi, tofu rice bowls. Staff come up again and again as cheery and helpful. The upstairs room is described as calm yet buzzing, with high chairs, buggy access and outdoor seating; there's a basement Korean BBQ setup that's colder and dingier, so ask to stay upstairs. Sushi can be hit and miss — stick to katsu and the smaller meat dishes. Around £30 a head with drinks.
