Jacksons Cafébar & Guesthouse
A warm, well-loved Ambleside café with high chairs, outdoor seating and vegan options — an easy stop with the kids.

Cafés · Ambleside
A tea room in the proper sense — china cups, homemade everything, and tables spaced far enough apart that a pram isn't a problem. The staff are relaxed and friendly, and nobody hurries you off your table, which matters when a small person is working slowly through a scone. And the scones are the thing here: sultana ones with butter, jam or homemade lemon curd, and a cheese scone with chive and onion marmalade that regulars rate above anywhere else. Homemade soups with fresh-baked bread, quiche of the day, and cream teas round it out, with gluten-free bread done properly too. There's a log burner upstairs for cold wet days, a kids' menu, high chairs, outdoor seating and free parking. The catch: no bookings, so in bad weather you may queue outside, and popular dishes sell out.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
