About Bacchus Bar

Tucked down an alley beneath the Burlington Hotel opposite New Street Station, this is the sort of place you'd walk straight past — you head down a spiral staircase into a vaulted, candlelit space covered floor-to-ceiling in artwork and sculptures. Children tend to go quiet and stare, which is its own kind of win. It's big, but broken up into nooks, so you can tuck a pram into a corner without blocking anyone. High chairs and a kids' menu are there, and the welcome is genuinely warm. Order at the bar — there's no sign saying so, and people do sit waiting. The chargrilled chicken and chorizo, the garlic chicken schnitzel and the fish and chips all get praised; portions are large. Prices lean high for pub food, and by 7pm on a busy evening tables are reserved, so book.
