Tucked into the Coal Exchange, this is a handsome room — exposed brick, wood panelling, art deco lighting — with roomy banquette seating in the middle that gives you somewhere to park a pram without blocking anyone. High chairs and a kids' menu are there, and buggy access is straightforward. Sunday lunch is where it shines: the roasts draw real praise, with tender lamb, crisp-skinned chicken and vegetables that aren't boiled to mush, and the fish and chips comes with a reworked tartare and proper peas. Live music at lunchtime keeps things relaxed rather than rowdy. Two honest snags: food can be inconsistent away from the roast, and waits of 35–40 minutes have caught people out — order something for the children early.
