Open before 9am — a rarity round here — which makes it a lifeline on mornings when everyone's up at six and hungry. It sits right on the square by the cross well, with outdoor seating for warmer days and a kids' menu, high chairs and vegan options inside. Portions are generous: the maple bacon French toast, warm banana bread and full Scottish all get raved about, and the scones (banoffee especially) are the thing people come back for. Bathrooms are clean, there's plenty of seating, and the team are patient and warm — one family found the owners went out of their way over a gluten-free order, bringing the bread over to reassure them. It does get properly busy at lunch, so come early if you want a table without a wait. Dogs get a water bowl too.
