Tucked down St Peter's Street among the independent shops, this is the kind of café that rewards the walk from the waterfront — mainly because of the courtyard garden out the back, a proper sun trap where you can let children spread out while you finish a coffee. There's a covered bit too, so rain doesn't cancel the plan. Inside gets fairly busy, so the garden is usually the easier option with a buggy. The coffee is consistently good, the cinnamon rolls get raved about, and the scrambled eggs with smashed avocado and the veggie sausage rolls are worth ordering. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and vegan choices, and the staff are genuinely warm rather than chain-polished — one parent called it "authentic and not chain-like". The afternoon tea comes with unlimited hot drinks.
