Right by the water with a small marina alongside, this is the kind of stop where a family can spread out and breathe. Parking is plentiful and free, there's buggy access and high chairs, and plenty of outdoor seating for warmer months. Portions are the talking point — the steak and ale pie arrives enormous, with triple-cooked chips and a proper pot of gravy, and the beef and mushroom stew gets the same treatment. There's a kids' menu with the reliable ham, egg and chips, and a waffle and ice cream pudding. Staff bring colouring out as soon as you sit down and stay patient with children underfoot. The menu covers dietary requirements well, and it's dog-friendly too. Booking is wise, and one family reckoned the plates were "you won't need dinner later" size.
